Character Information
Name: Jake English
Canon Origin/Series: Homestuck
School Year: 5
Gender: Male
Age: 16
Out of school living location: Liscannor, Ireland
Blood status: Pureblood, but raised as if he was muggle born.

Personality:
In HS Canon: Jake English is the embodiment of a kid with too much free time, a copious supply of firearms, and a private island all to himself. Because of this, Jake has been alone for much of his life, and is generally not well socialized. So, in turn, he has had to seek out friendships through the internet instead. Because he's only had friends through the internet, Jake is rather awkward, and probably would be very strange around his friends, if he ever met them in person. After all, the only actual exposure he's had to living creatures, has been through the animals on his island. But since Jake is so unaccustomed to social interaction with anyone, he's actually a very odd person in regards to conversation. He shows that he can be very easily embarrassed by some conversations, either by things his friends say, or things he says, since it doesn't always strike him immediately that he might have said something that could be considered vaguely humiliating. But since Jake is not used to normal conversation, he appears to be easily excitable or frustrated.

Jake has shown this, mostly in his conversations with his friends. Among the three of them, he shows that he is probably the most comfortable speaking to Jane (although, he does misinterpret a few things that she says). His lack of socialization is rather noticeable in the way he speaks over the Instant Messaging clients of the series, since the manner of which he speaks, appears to be somewhat dated. This could be due to his lack of interacting within his age group. But Jake commonly uses terms like "Egad" or "Dickens", similar to that of a figure from the early 20th century. But he does show to be striving to still blend in with his generation in his conversations, managing to use more modern vernacular, along with his own speaking quirks. His friends seem to be aware that Jake isn't the most socially normal of teenagers, and Jane even points out to Jake, saying that he is a "very strange and silly boy." To which, Jake seems to be entirely okay with. Moreso, he seems to be very easily flustered in conversations with his friends, when matters of personal relationships come up. Even though he seems to be most comfortable speaking to Jane, more than once in a conversation, has he used roleplaying bubbles to indicate that he's somewhat surprised by her comments, and his responses were either him "tugging at his collar" or "fumbling for a handkerchief to clear up his glasses". Both instances were preceded by comments that were seemingly innocent, and Jake misinterpreted them as being almost flirtatious gestures.

Speaking of his friends, it's rather clear that he values them, and their opinions. He's open to hearing from them, and hearing about their ideas, whether or not the ideas might be silly. He's receptive to any of the concepts that might be brought up to him by them, and doesn't brush off the things his friends say as jokes. When Roxy Lalonde told him about her theories on the Batterwitch trying to manipulate the four Alpha kids into participating in her evil plot, Jake didn't react in a way that would have pushed his friend away, in fact, he was actually very responsive to it, stating that he believed her. He seems to want to keep his friends close, so he does what he can to keep them close and not upset them. More often than not, he begins his conversations with friends, apologizing for bothering them. He doesn't seem to want to bother his friends, had they been doing something, and not come across as needy and troublesome to his friends. It's also rather obvious that he doesn't like to bother his friends for help, in his conversation with Dirk Strider and his Auto-Responder, as he constantly beats around the bush in trying to ask for more uranium. Jake's also shown that with his friends, if they start to irritate him, he starts to drop his dated vernacular, and starts to sound like a normal teenager. He isn't afraid to tell off his friends if they upset him, but he's still kind and almost playful as he gets upset, and if he gets pushed around by anyone he gets progressively more and more frustrated with them.

As for Jake's life, his seclusion seems to have made him somewhat numb to the idea of there being horrific monsters living on his island that could kill him. He's become rather used to going outside into dark, and dismal forests, and fighting off the various beasts that come his way. He's become somewhat used to their existence by the idea of going out into his island, and he doesn't show to be very affected by being put into danger. Also, his seclusion on the island is what brought him to being so socially awkward when it come to conversing with his friends. Instead of human beings while he was growing up, Jake was exposed to giant crabs, bull fairies, mergoats and centaurs. The lack of genuine human interaction replaced with "lusus" interaction, desensitized him somewhat to events that would probably lead to regular people being put on edge. He finds this to be normal.

However, even with his constant seclusion on the island and lack of exposure to human life, he shows to be very open minded about the rest of the world. This could be because of all the stories of his grandmother, and his correspondence with Jade. Through meeting her, he's surely learned to be accepting of all sorts of strange occurrences, such as paradox time travel, and transportalizing objects. He doesn't question all that much, and like he demonstrates with his friends, as being understanding of all of their ideas and stories, he expresses this as well in daily life, when it comes to the regular happenings of his day to day activities. Then again, it could also just be that he's absolutely oblivious and naive to what the world off his island is like.

Even though Jake seems to be very close with his friends, Jake also seems to be a very silly young man. Jane even has pointed this out him. Jake is quite often willing to make nonsensical declarations in conversation, and seems to be easily impressed and surprised by a number of things. He's somewhat playful, in that from time to time, he pushes the idea of him being a daring, adventurous young man in regards to social situations, when he's really rather different. He likes to think he's some cool kid, but he's a bit too silly and dorky to be taken seriously as a cool kid.

But Jake does convey, what he thinks, makes him a very cool person. But actually, they're still all very silly things. Some can be considered cool interests and hobbies, but most are just silly. Jake happens to be a fan of movies and comic books (however, he stands by his belief that comics do NOT make him a nerd). All movies, and there really has never been a movie that Jake hasn't liked. However, his favorite of all movies happen to be those with women of a blue complexion. After all, they are the most attractive women, in Jake's mind. Sure, movies are a normal interest, blue women--sure, everyone has their fetish. But there's more. Jake also has an obsession with skulls, thinking that there's a good one at the heart of any adventure. He has collections of them, and he can't really say what it is about them, but he certainly loves them. More than his love of movies and his love of skulls--Jake loves guns. He's got piles of them littering his room and his house in general, and he swears by them, even using two pistols in his strife deck

Canon Background: Take a gander right here!
Background (AU!Canon; HP): At first, Jake seemed like the kind of kid who arrived at Hogwarts with the complete identity of being a muggleborn idiot. But here's the real catcher.
Jake English--of Irish descent, actually--is a pureblood.
You see, Jake English was born to two lovely, pureblooded parents. His mother was incredibly skilled in herbology and astronomy, while his father excelled in duelling and the dark arts. His parents seemed to be a near perfect wizarding couple. Both purebloods, both skilled in fields that fitted their sex. Both excellent parents.
That is until Jake's mother discovered that her husband was a dark wizard and was planning on raising their son to hate anyone and everyone associated with muggles and adhere to pureblood supremacy. That was a bit of a problem.
So one night, Jake's mother took the baby and they both fled to her mothers home on the far west side of Ireland. It was when they arrived, that Jake's mother decided one thing, and saw to it that his grandmother would help with: in order to hide Jake from his father, he would be raised as a muggle. No doubt about it. Jake English, was not a wizard. He was an ordinary muggle.
So for many years, Jake lived with his mother and grandmother on a small ranch in western Ireland. He became a raging fan of action-adventure movies, as well as fantasy ones. Especially onces with wizards and spellcasters. Ones that his mother would look at, and tease Jake for believing in something so silly. But he couldn't help but dream his entire life that there was something amazing waiting out there for him.
He was often a troublemaker. Jake didn't have many friends in the small town in which they lived. Frequently, he would take one of their ranch's horses, and disappear in the middle of the night, only to return the next covered in dirt and bruises, stating that he was off having his own adventure.
And it was on these little adventures with him that he started to notice his magical ability. He was finding that he had a knack for dealing with plants. They seemed to grow when he went about examining them. That, and he was surprisingly capable at approaching wild animals and the like without them getting too scared.
That, and how horrible things seemed to happen all around him and yet he remained totally unscathed.
It was when Jake turned ten that things took their turn for the worst, and Jake got some answers. Shortly after his tenth birthday, Jake's mother was hit by a speeding car, and passed away from her injuries. And it was in her final instructions to her mother--that Jake get to learn all about what he is.
And Jake was estatic.
Within a week, Jake was burying himself in all the books his mother and grandmother had kept hidden from him all these years, and within a month, Jake was obsessed with magic. Particularly dark arts, and magical creatures. He was completely and utterly absorbed in the entire idea of magic and adventures that well, he felt like he was living in one of his movies.
So needless to say, when Jake got his Hogwarts letter, there was a bit of a struggle when it came to deciding if he was going to stay home with his movies or go to wizarding school. However, there wasn't much of a struggle and Jake quickly accepted and embraced his future in magic.
Since attending the school, Jake has become a bit of a rebel, sneaking out late at night, mixing "illicit" potions now and then, and dabbling in growing and collecting some things in the greenhouses that most adults might not be too thrilled with. But it's all part of his magical adventure as far as he's concerned.
How would your character fit in to each House?
Gryffindor: Jake's an adventurous, ballsy sort of kid who is likely to get into tough spots, but it's all for the sake of being a hero, and enjoying himsef. He's tough, but he's also friendly and optimistic, and eager to please others. Even though he's a rule breaker, he does it not for the sake of breaking rules, but rather for the chance to experience more. His willingness for adventure and open mindedness towards his friends is also one of his strong qualities.
Hufflepuff: He's rather dedicated to all of his friends and he's really likely to sacrifice himself to make sure his friends are doing alright. He's got a cheery and polite demeanor around others, even if he might not seem like he fully understands sometimes. He is INCREDIBLY loyal to people, especially when he becomes close to them, and he hates to be the type to leave someone hanging, but that doesn't mean he's okay with being a bother to someone.
Ravenclaw: He's a pretty clever kid, having been able to sneak out of his house when he was younger without anyone being the wise. He's been known for having a way with words, and outsmarting others from time to time. He's also very eloquent, having a rather old fashioned way of speaking. He's a smart kid, always tinkering with gadgets and has a love for building new things.
Slytherin: He's a bit of a brat, and has a fair bit of an attitude as well as an ego. He's more likely to snark at someone he doesn't like, using carefully chosen words, rather than get into a real fight with someone. He has a slight complex, thinking that he's pretty talented and incredibly likely to being a hero type, even though deep down, he's not that fantastic. He brags a fair bit, and seems to be a bit closed off to others--but moreso in the sense that he can be oblivious about something, or that he's taking a moment to have some personal Jake time. He's also a pureblood, so he does have the blood line going for him.

RP Samples:
Attention all third through seventh years!
Ive decided that for this weeks congregation for FAWKES (Future Adventuring Wizard Kin Enduring Strifes) we shall all be taking a little trip to a secret location!
Please keep it in mind that ive got to get some major approval from our senior staff!
But i can promise that it will be absolutely smashing!
Do try not to let word of this meeting reach the younger students.
Ive had to send out quite a number of owls to parents in order to get their signature stating that they allow their kids to venture out of the castle after hours!
As a second note i would like to advertise that im always searching for another dueling partner!
And not even just dueling either!
A nice wrestling match would be splendid!
With that being said dont let any of the staff know of this gathering!
Since dare i say we may be sticking out our necks a bit for this venture!

All my best,
J

Third Person Sample:
And like that, Jake's wand went flying from his hand, the wave of magic that had hit him in the stomach causing him to stumble back on the dueling platform. He'd fallen down, landing hard on his rear, grinning up at his opponent. He lifted an arm to rub at the side of his head. He was a little dizzy now from the hit, but he wouldn't let it stop him. His opponent stood over him and extended a hand. How nice! Jake reached out and grabbed the fellows hand, and hoisted himself back up to his feet.
"You really scuffed me up good, eh?" he said as he ventured back to grab his wand before going back to the platform's edge. "What you say to best three out of five, chap?" The partner declined, insisting that next time would be better, leaving Jake somewhat saddened by this, but nevertheless, he shrugged it off and leapt from the platform.
He'd come to really enjoy dueling, and he'd found himself to be one of the best in his year. And it was getting to be just a little dangerous for him to start dueling kids his own age, or younger for that matter. So Jake had decided to take the risk, dueling older students and the occassional teacher, just as a means of staying on top of it. He was hoping that he might get the opportunity to get a nice position one day, dueling for a living.
And now he was antsy. His dueling partner for the night had called it quits, and he was on his own. And he still had so much adrenaline building up. He needed to do something.
He had it.
Jake stuck his wand into his robes, and he scanned the area for a moment. No one around. Good.
He had the perfect plan.
He'd been hearing about the centaurs of the Forbidden Forest coming out on to school grounds this time at night. He'd always wanted to meet one. He'd always wanted to see if he might have the chance to, oh, you know. Befriend one.
It a was the ideal adventure for the night. Jake grinned and he turned towards the doors.
He had some scrums to get into. Whether they were with a centaur or not? Didn't matter.
Had adventures.
